PIC and Kennedy Forum Releases Parity Resource Guide

On the 8th of June, members of the Parity Implementation Coalition and the Kennedy Forum released the 2nd edition of the Parity Resource Guide for Addictions & Mental Health Consumers, Providers, and Advocates. The Guide was developed to increase the general publics’ understanding of the law, how to file a complaint and the steps to appeal denied claims. The federal parity law was passed in 2008 to end discriminatory health care practices against behavioral health consumers.  In 2013, the final parity regulations were issued which further ensured the quantitative and non-quantitative limitations for behavioral health care are no more restrictive than those for medical/surgical care. The Resource Guide includes sample appeal letters and frequently asked questions (FAQs).
