White House Convenes Call on Mental Health Parity Implementation

Mental health parity is back in the forefront at the White House. Right in time, as the National Mental Health Awareness Month is coming to an end. Staff of the U.S. Department of Labor and U.S. Department of Health were on the call to answer questions and review the new requirements and protection under the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA) Final Rule. The Final Rule will be effective for plans on July 1, 2014. The U.S. Department of Labor is in the process of updating their parity compliance self-checklist to reflect the new regulations. The checklist will be released in October 2014. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services is hopeful that a proposed rule will be out at the end of the summer for how MHPAEA will apply to Medicaid. After rule is released, there will be a 60-day period to comment. To view presentation on MHPAEA, click here.
